Where Do I Even Start with Cybersecurity?

If you've ever felt like cybersecurity is something you should probably be doing something about, but you don't even know what the first step would be — you're not behind, and you're not alone. In our research, half of the business owners we spoke to described exactly this feeling: not lacking effort, but lacking a starting point.

That's a specific, nameable problem, and it has a specific answer.

You don't need to learn "cybersecurity" as a whole subject. You need to know where your own business currently stands, in plain terms, across a small number of areas that actually matter for a business your size:

  • Do you and your team use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication?
  • Do you know what customer data you actually collect, and where it's stored?
  • Would you know what to do in the first hour if something went wrong?
  • Do you have a working backup of anything you couldn't afford to lose?
  • Does everyone on your team know how to spot a scam attempt when it lands in their inbox or phone?

That's it. Five areas, not fifty. You don't need to become an expert in any of them — you need an honest, specific answer for where you currently stand in each one, and a plain-language next step for whichever ones need attention.

That's exactly what a proper starting assessment should give you — not a wall of technical jargon, not a sales pitch for expensive software, just a clear picture and a short list of what to do first.

Cybersentinel was built specifically to answer this question, in plain language, in a way that assumes no prior knowledge at all.
